home sweet home

quick precursor: flying slightly drunk is perfect. i got on the plane closed my eyes and all of a sudden we were landing!

so i decided to go home to colorado for thanksgiving this year. i havent been home since college for it. mostly i hate traveling during the holidays and its so close to x-mas anyways.

well my brother had decided that him and his family (wife and 3 kids!!!) would come so i came too. pretty crazy cause i havent seen him since high school and i have never met the family. it was so much fun being with them... coloring, playing eye spy and watching fairly odd parents.

this is my god daughter davianna. shes 3. she ran up to me when i came in the house and called me her other mommy (my bro always said aunt kim, your god mother :)

ive never been around little kids before and the smallest things i had to ask questions about. she wanted a snack and i gave her a grip of goldfish crackers and my mom just laughed at me. things like when she says she needs to potty she needs someone to hold her on it so she doesnt fall in. just stuff i really would never think about.

then the littlest one, aidan (almost 2) is so funny. the most politest kid ive ever witnessed. you hand him his motor cycle and he says thank you. he hands it back and i say thank you and he says your welcome. this could literally go back and forth forever.  they can make a game out of absolutely anything!

and the oldest willow (6) is such an amazing oldest sibling. she is so helpful with the little ones and is always complimenting them. its great to see.

so they took off on friday and i went to the foothills to hang with angy and her BF mike. on the drive up there it started to snow. well when we woke up this is what we saw:

they said this was the first snow of the winter to stick! i brought it with naturally!

i love colorado so much!

but heres the thing. what do you do when its cold out. i mean i havent had to face this dilemma in a long while.

well you go bowling! who cares if its the saturday after thanksgiving and its 11am... you still drink beer!!! and at 99 cents a game we had a great time.
then went to nordstrom to have dinner with my mom (she packed home made turkey noodle soup, which we ate in the lunch room). did a little shopping for my b-day. then hit the airport. its crazy how far away and out in the middle of nowhere it is.

checkin took 2 mins. security took 10 (only cause they picked me to do the new full body x-ray... probably cause there was no one else to pick from and then the guy working there procedded to make fun of my pink shoes and ask me where im from)

the rest of the trip was pretty uneventful. mostly walking around the terminal, laughing at people crowding the gate thinking they are going to get on the flight quicker, and scooping out electrical outlets to charge my cell phone. fell asleep on the plane, got my bag quickly in sd and was back with such ease i thought i had just clicked my heels.

but as much as colorado is home to me i love san diego. i put on flip flops this morning and walked around the farmers market!

hooky

playing hooky is probably the most fun a grown up can have! .... legally and soberly of course!

for reasons like:

HASH HOUSE A-GO-GO! this place has at least an hour wait on weekends. well not in the middle of the week it doesnt. and i can now see why. the food was amazing (pictured: biscuits and gravy with mash potatoes and meatloaf, spinach, bell pepper hash with smoked motzerella w/ a huge biscuit and fresh mixed fruit jam)

this was pretty much all i ate the whole day (besides cereal later :)

then did some shopping, ran errands and watched tv. AMAZING!

birthday-in-a-box

contents:
a homemade chocolate cupcake in individual container, one serving peanut butter frosting in individual container, freeze dried space ice cream (chocolate with chocolate chips), a party popper, a sparkley blower (non noise making kind), a homemade card... oh and the most obnoxious/amazing flowered tights.

and my b-day isnt even for a few more weeks :)

wait... where was i last night?

oh yeah. just look at your wrist and you'll remember!

so this was my friday night:

started out in ocean beach at the sunshine company. very relaxed. supposedly the hippie area of san diego. and i love hippies so i also love sunshine company. and i love that people feel it necessary to give a surfer girl sign to the ladies room a bush. ha! oh and say love again.

then off to mission beach to see THE CONCRETE PROJECT at canes. they were amazing! and that girl can belt w/ so much soul!

and the headliners were double amazing. the first thing that struck me about VOKAB KOMPANY is that one of the guys style reminded me of a circus member. well duh. of course im instantly attracted.
and then the music is what kept me on the dance floor up against the stage the entire show. the genre... well myspace says its hip hop, funk, electronica. im not so sure what that means but i do know its so much fun.

cant wait to see both groups perform again!

then bounced back to ob to have free pizza and sit on the boardwalk. 3am came fast but every minute was loved!

time warp

i do believe the world (or at least california, colorado, and alabama) have fallen into a bizarro time hole... cause this week will not end!
so i wanted to share with everyone what i do to pass the time. this is my email inbox for today.
NUFF SAID!

kimonos as art

went to culture and cocktails last night at the art museum in balboa park. kinda the same concept as TNT, but this one you have to pay... boo! j/k i have no prob supporting the arts.

so the crowd was a bit older, a bit more done up, and i think a bit more there to be seen instead of see. at one point i couldnt help but say: so where is the art in this art museum?

well once we found it it was incredible! the exhibit is called kimonos as art by Itchiku Kubota.

the kimonos are simply gorgeous. extremely detailed and def something to be admired.

on display are also traditional kimono making tools and a video and display on the process.

each one can take about a year to complete.

which just makes the second room you come into even more spectacular.
this is about 1/3 of the symphony of light collection (i didnt get a chance to photo the other parts cause apparently photography is not allowed and a little old lady wagged her finger at me :)
quite breathtaking.
so enough with the art loving. lets do some people watching!
the upstairs section of the museum overlooks a lounge area packed with people drinking, mingeling, and getting pointed at by me and christina. i was dying for someone to catch me but didnt make it happen!
we played a little "yes, no, or for my country"
and then found the best thing of the night: CRAFTS
the teacher was hilarious... i dont think she knew we kick butt at all things crafty cause she kept saying 'ok watch me now, this step is very complicated' and then we would just bust it out!
so those are cranes in our hair.
and we made foxs for our foxs!
so overall another amazing night in san diego.
whats that you ask? who would win in a brawl between c&c vs TNT?
i think i'd call it a tie

TNT

its the thursday night thing!

went to the museum of contemporary art last night down town. a band, a bar, crafts, a very mixed group of people... all for free! (well 3$ donation)

the exhibit is called 'artists response to a changing planet'. heres the blurg about it: the project uses contemporary art to investigate the relationships between fragile natural environments and the human communities that depend upon them.

and here are the things that moved me most:

The Common Denominator of Existence Is Loss
the piece consists of real human and bear bones!
but mostly the shadow it cast on the ground is what really caught my eye.

Love Has Value Because It’s Not Eternal

Some Longings Survive Death

that is woolly mammoth hair braided into flowers!

and yes woolly mammoths are real! i thought they were like unicorns but apparently not

so quite the lovely evening soaking up the culture in san diego
